The High Street Strikes Back
LAST MONTH I wrote of a nation-wide revulsion at the antics of the big chains as they seek to steal business from decent independent local trades people. It goes further than a mere feeling and thinking people are becoming proactive. Newport
Pagnell is coming increasingly to enjoy the service of NP Foodbox.
Neil Whitford and Carole Trillian have put together a brilliant operation which supports truly local suppliers in the service of truly local households. They resource all their produce from high street traders who in turn keep them right up to date on what produce is best suited to the season. I called in on a very frosty morning just in time to find Neil taking in his supplies before preparing the day’s delivery run. The choices available run beyond food to include flowers and a very local (Stoke Goldington) honey. The service takes full account of the situation of busy people who may be away from home when
delivery comes round; your needs are supplied in waterproof boxes so everything is kept dry on your doorstep awaiting your return.
Neil and Carole look to earn themselves a satisfactory living in return for honest endeavour and sound forward planning. Unlike the vast multiples they are not out to screw down their suppliers who get a very acceptable deal, this I was told even as a man came in with a heap of fruit and veg. They do also enjoy terms which enable them to give the end customer an excellent service at a fair price. Keep your business local, no one needs the supermarket to send round their dot.com van, stay with local people who take the trouble to know and study you.
