News from Tickford Park School
Our library was the centre of attention recently when we welcomed our friend Emma Carrick from Newport Pagnell library and Jenny Ferrans, the Milton Keynes Minister for libraries into school for a special assembly. They came to give us our award for winning the Milton Keynes Council summer reading Challenge for the third time. we gratefully received our prize of a wonderful selection of books for the library and thank all those parents who encouraged their children to take part.
we had another special event in the library with our Magic and Mystery storytime. Every class had a magical storyteller reading to them in the dark and mysterious library, decorated with stars, twinkling lights and a dragon with a code to decipher. Our thanks go to our governors and other staff who read, especially reverend beverley Hollins who actually wrote the story she read!
Our year One classes visited the Toy Museum where they saw and handled toys from long ago, looking at how they were made and the materials used. They followed up on this with a visit to Chartwell Flats to talk to the residents there about the toys they had played with when they were children. The children really enjoyed hearing stories about how different toys were then and what games they had played.
at our recent parents evening we had a display from the charity we support, the Children of Chenobyl. They are constantly looking for local host families to have a child stay with them. The benefits to the children of fresh air, good food and medical checkups are immeasurable and they stay on a bed, breakfast and evening meal basis, with daytime activities arranged by the charity. if you feel able to help this worthwhile cause
please call Colleen Goldfinch on 01604 675590.
we are in full preparation for Christmas, with plays and assemblies being practised, carols learned and decorations made. we are especially privileged to again hold our annual carol concert at the church of st Peter and st Paul in the town. we welcome parents to their child’s performances and details of timings have been sent home.
