Ousedale’s Charity Week
Our traditiOnal Charity Week ran from Monday 22nd november to Friday 26th november. as always staff, students and local community groups gave generously of their time and money in support of our school charities: Save the Children and Willen hospice. the scale of activities that took place was incredible!
a range of events were held at the Olney campus; the final of Ousedale’s Got talent saw the hall packed out; the finalists were drawn from year 7-10 and ranged from a singing and dancing troupe through to some excellent duos and an exhibition of great skill with stacking cups! Mrs Grace’s human fruit machine went down well each break and the chance to throw wet sponges at Mrs Grace and Mrs Williams was much appreciated, thus boosting the coffers! thursday saw the hall packed again, as representatives from forms promoted their stalls.
at newport Pagnell Ousedale’s Got
talent was again superbly supported
with some real talent on show. the
judges were in two minds about the
student who had the bravery to stand
up and simply hum the theme tune to
Star Wars but decided that if Wagner
was good enough to make it on to the X-Factor then our student should
make it through too! as at Olney the
stalls were superbly supported but
the highlight, again, was the OaP
Christmas Party organised by
thames Valley Police. this is one of
our regular annual events that takes place in ‘charity week’. as a cross campus event it is always an absolute delight to see three generations of local people socialising together and clearly enjoying themselves. in terms of the school building relationships within and between the local community, the OaP party is always a headline event. PCSO dave huckle said: “this event has been running for a number of years and we are honoured that thames Valley Police and the local neighbourhood team in newport Pagnell are able to support the event for the third year running.” honoured guests included the Mayor and none other than Father Christmas himself!
as yet we do not know how much will be raised though we fully expect it to finally reach several thousands of pounds. a development on recent years has been the
addition of a nominated third charity to support. 45% of the money raised will go to each of our school charities; additionally, following the tragic death of one of our teaching colleagues, 10% of the total will go to a charity nominated by students via the School Parliament. last year in memory of the member of staff a national cancer charity was chosen. We wait to see who the students will choose this year.
a huge debt of gratitude is owed to all those involved. representatives of the chosen charities will be invited in to school to receive a cheque and talk to the students in assembly about how the money will be used by their charity.
i’m already looking forward to next year’s event!
