The Olney Branch at Stoke Goldington Steam Rally
On a very windy Friday afternoon with my one
and two year olds both watching (rather than
sleeping in the car as planned) two of us unpacked the ancient tent and, with a little help from a passer by, pitched at a delightful spot - close to the bar and the food area, but mainly, close to the toilets. Our nappy changing and baby feeding areas were ready, complete with changing mat, potty, table, chairs and NCT reading material.
Much to my surprise the tent was still standing on Saturday morning. The new hole or two we created not causing too much of a problem.
When we packed away on Sunday, after enjoying a lovely couple of days at the steam rally, we read some lovely comments, some of which I have included:
"Great idea thank you for making it easier for us!", "Fantastic idea - thank you!!", "Brilliant idea didn't realise the tent was here yesterday (Sat) and changed my daughter in the car, a lot easier today.", "Thank you, great idea, should be compulsory at all events!", "Thank you for providing this service, it's great.", "Many thanks, what would we do without you.", "Thank you very much, my little girl was much happier to be changed without wind blowing up her bottom!", "Cheers - every steam rally should have one!"
So, if you've ever wondered what we do with the money we raise, some of it goes to the national charity and the remainder goes to provide local services for pregnant women and under twos – including nappy changing at Stoke Goldington Steam Rally.

At the end of May we completed our current indoor season. We shall be ‘out and about’ in June and July, returning to the Tickford Centre, Newport Pagnell, Thursdays, in September.
The final round of our Internal Competition League brought wins for Peter Clarke in the print section with ‘Wise men of Dhulikhel’, and in the projected image section for Colin Mill with ‘Iron and Steel’. There were four images in this section with the maximum score of 20, from Colin, Paula Ley, Simon Raynor and Fred Wood.
Advance notice – NCPS 12th Annual Exhibition and Family Portrait Studio. Saturday 20th June 10-4pm in the Methodist Church in Newport Pagnell.
As in previous years we shall also be opening the Exhibition for free public viewing on Friday 19th June between 10am and 2pm.
Newport Pagnell & Olney Lions
present ‘Motorama’
June 14th – Olney Market Place
After last years amazingly successful Motorama, the event will be returning again this year when we will have even more vehicles and attractions to keep the motoring enthusiast happy. In addition to the Market Place, we have applied for road closure orders for the two adjacent roads which will enable us to almost double the size of the event.
We will, once again, be running a competition in a number of classes and we will have additional feature vehicles including motorbikes and commercial vehicles. We expect that most shops and bars in and around the marketplace will be open, and it should be a fun day, some come down and wallow in nostalgia or admire the Ferrari corner. Bring the kids and let them vote for their favourite car. In fact, if you have a vehicle you would like to enter, pick up an entry form from our website www.npolneylions.btik.com Or just chance driving down on the day. If we can’t make room, you can always park up and join in the fun.
We would like to acknowledge the large number of business within Olney who are helping us make this a successful event through their generous sponsorship. We will publish a list of sponsors in the next edition of the Phonebox.
We anticipate an excellent turn out and if the weather is as kind to us this year as it was last, a fantastic day will be guaranteed.
All proceeds will be donated to Lions Charities. Look forward to seeing you there!
