March 2025 | Phonebox Magazine 39It seems unbelievable, but January and February have already come and gone. February is both the shortest month of the year and the last month of winter meteorologically although we still have another 20 days of winter to come %u2013 astronomically! Sticking to months for seasons seems more logical, even if global warming is changing them. It certainly makes things easier with the fi rst day of March seeming a good day to start a spring clean.February comes from the Latin Februa, the ancient Roman celebration of cleansing and fertility. Whilst fertility is not on CRMK%u2019s agenda, cleansing is and with March being named after Mars, the Roman God of war, we%u2019ll be waging war on the cleanliness of our studio this month, ready for the 8th anniversary of being in our Newport Pagnell home. Presenters keep the studio clean and tidy, or do they? Hoovering or vacuuming, to give it its proper name, takes place at least once a week, thanks to Keith! Phil sorts out the rubbish bin, and Kev will be checking for any detritus left lying around. Apologies, though, to any presenters who may tidy, clean or vacuum our converted public convenience studio and didn%u2019t get a credit.Tea bags left in the sink is a common occurrence and beer bottles have been found under chairs. Old magazines and fl yers build up, as do annoying scraps of paper on the fl oor. Dust accumulates, but our %u2018tickling stick%u2019 solves that, especially with regard to our mixing desk and other tech items. Dirt and grime brought in from outside are an obvious issue but can easily be solved in minutes by using a vacuum cleaner. These machines had their origins in the 19th century. Originally, they %u2018blew the dust away%u2019 before someone had the idea of %u2018sucking the dust away%u2019. In 1908, the fi rst commercial domestic single-operator upright vacuum cleaner was available to buy. In the 117 years since we have progressed to the devices we now have. CRMK%u2019s are castoff s but do the job %u2013 just about.Kev, by now, will have listed essential maintenance jobs, both inside and out, and March will see that spring clean. Internally, the paintwork will be touched up, walls and skirting boards washed in addition to those regular cleaning jobs that must be done. Externally, the garden needs tending, planters repaired, weeds removed from around the building and maybe this year, the outside will get a fresh coat of paint. February saw CRMK raise much-needed funds with a table-top sale at Ousebank House, who were excellent hosts. Many thanks to them and you, if you are reading this and supported us on the day. The big February news, though, came when we were visited by ITV News Anglia %u2013 more of that in next month%u2019s article. Even bigger news possibly was that a new presenter started, so they are clearly one extra person we can rope in to help with the studio spring clean.www.crmk.co.uk Spring cleaning, vacuum cleaners and moreCRMK RADIOWHY CHOOSE US?Expert advice: we make ff int easyReliable & local: service you can %u001a ustQuality results: a%u0019 ention to detail, every timePRINT & DESIGNWe design, refresh and print for business, personal projects, events and more...BUSINESS & MARKETING: Business Cards, Brochures, Leafl ets, Posters, MenusSIGNAGE & LARGE FORMAT:Waterproof Banners, Pull Up Banners, Magnetic Posters, General SignageDOCUMENTS & STATIONERY: Leff erheads, Invoice / Order Books, Binding, Scanning, Photocopying, Weddings and FuneralsPERSONAL & CUSTOM PRINT:Invitations, Labels, Postcards, Photos & More...Contact Sarah today 01234 713 298 info@orchard.pressUnit 2, Stanley Court, Olney, Bucks, MK46 5NH SHOP LOCAL, PRINT LOCAL YOUR TRUSTED LOCAL PRINTER
