 On 3rd July our speaker was Mr Mark Davis who gave a talk and slide show on, "The Story of Grasse, Centre Of The Perfume Industry". We were taken on a scented journey through time from Catherine de Medici's lavender infused gloves, which she commissioned to protect her nose from the odours of the local tannery, through to the present day Celebrity Perfumes. Along the way we were reminded of many perfumes we had known through the decades, such as, Joy by Jean Patou. Launched in 1 935 Joy contains Jasmine and Rose and is the most expensive perfume you can buy costing £1000 per ounce. Mark told us that there are around 3,500 perfumes available on the market today and that Fragonard Perfumery in Grasse holds nearly all the receipes for these perfumes.
The competition, "A Perfume Bottle", was won by Sandy Brock, Joint second, Flo Mynard and Raz Skull and Joint 3rd, Janet Smith and Sheila Wells.
The raffle was won by Barbara Martin, Sue Humphreys, Trish Brock, Sheila Wells, Marie Marler and Janet Smith.
A W.I. Garden Party in aid of Willen Hospice was held on 8 July in the stunning garden of Treasurer Sandy Brock. On this lovely, sunny day members enjoyed a buffet lunch, strawberries and cream and a glass of bubbly. There were raffle prizes galore and a bring
and buy stall. A thoroughly enjoyable time was had by all with much fun and laughter.

Tony Maisey will be talking on 'The Concept of Pain". The competition will be "A Painful Limerick".
