Newport Pagnell Football unDER 1 a·, With the new football season only just getting under way, this is a good opportunity to mention the performances of Newport Pagnell Town's junior/youth teams last season. Last season proved to be a very successful one for the young players at Newport Pagnell Town Football club as four teams were crowned league champions in their respective age groups. With 1 7 teams ranging in ages from 6 to 1 6 the club provides football activity for approximately 300 local children at its Willen Road Sports Ground. In the nursery section playing in the MKDDL League, the club had winners at both the Under 1 0 and Under 1 1 age groups and also league runners up in the Under 1 2s age group. In the youth section playing in the MK Border Counties League the Under 1 3 Tigers and Under 1 4 Lions both won Division 2 titles (see photos) resulting in promotion into Division 1 for the forthcoming 2013/14 season. The youth section celebrated further success as Ian Ford, Manager of the Under 1 3 Tigers was not only awarded the accolade of Manager of the Season for the Under 1 3 age group but he went one better by being awarded Manager of the Season for the entire league structure. The club is very proud of all its players at all levels and is always looking for new talent to join its junior/youth teams and for corporate sponsors both at club and team level, so if you are interested in helping out your local club please send us an email to discuss f u rther: info@nptfc.co.uk . Looking towards the new season at senior level, the first team started its series of pre season friendlies with a 0-4 defeat at Willen Road against a strong Milton Keynes Dons XI, but this was certainly not a one-sided match and it was an encouraging performance by the home team. It was a credit to the Newport players that even when several experienced Dons first team players such as Dean Lewington and lzale Mcleod were on the pitch this never looked like a contest between clubs six leagues apart. The first United Counties League Premier Division match will be away at Peterborough Northern Star on 1 0th August. Then on Saturday 1 7th August you can see FA Cup football at Willen Road, when Newport will be at home to Hatfield Town in the Extra Preliminary Round. League fixtures beyond that have not been published yet, so keep an eye out on the Newport Pagnell Town Football Club web site, www.nptfc.co.uk or look out for posters around the town for details of home league matches. Season tickets will be on sale soon, covering all home league and league cup matches for first team and reserve team (but excluding FA Cup and FA Vase), excellent value at just £50.
