Newport pagNell SwimmiNg Club is steeped in history, dating back to 1896, making it not only an important part of the local community, but also one of the oldest swimming clubs in Britain.
Recent results
as a vibrant and active club we are constantly participating in race meets and galas, the latest of which took place at rugby. the event was a great success with 21 swimmers representing the club and not only recording 75 personal bests, but also achieving 6 gold, 6 silver and 4 bronze medals.
we have also just won the Division 2 Final gala of the Home Counties league to add another trophy to the cabinet!
During February and march Newport pagnell had 16 swimmers competing in individual events at the oxford and North Bucks County Championships as well as some relay teams. the Championships were extremely successful and we qualified for 22 finals, breaking 17 club records and achieving 1 gold, 2 Silver and 5 Bronze medals.
Charity Events
the clubs swimmers have also taken part in two local fundraising activities within the last month. Firstly, a small team entered the Swimathon 2011 event where two of our younger boys swam 2,500 metres each in
under 1hr 40mins to raise £800 for marie Curie Cancer.
we also took part in a charity swim at wolverton pool raising funds for willen hospice. the event started at 6.00am on a very windy day in an outdoor pool, but all 25 swimmers turned up and swam 430 miles in total raising over £200 for a very worthy cause.
Both these events were organised
by the swimmers themselves and all the participants should feel proud of their commitment and achievement.
Learning to Swim
we are really pleased to see that the full squad is being boosted by an increasing number of swimmers moving through from the development squad, which in turn is being fed by swimmers from our “learn to Swim” programme.
as a Swim21 accredited club it is really important that we focus on developing swimmers to help them achieve their own personal goals and we now have over 160 classes of swimmers, 39 development squad swimmers and 54 full squad swimmers. there is also an active group of masters
swimmers for those who are over 25, but still want to learn to swim properly!
