Museum Matters
The exhibition Wedding Dresses
Through the Ages designed to
mark the Royal Wedding is
already attracting interest and will
feature in the Museum until 30th
September. Do come along and see how
bridal fashions have changed over the decades.
Those who come to the Museum on Sunday 1st and Monday 2nd May will find the weekend is devoted to Wartime. Visitors will be encouraged to share and record their Wartime Memories to help the Museum build up a living archive. If you can assist with memories of any war, be it front line or home front, why not come along during the mornings to share your stories and recollections. The afternoons will be devoted to recording war poetry and visitors will be invited to read their favourite war poem. If you don’t have a poem the Museum will be happy to find you one. At 3.00pm there will be a group reminiscing session on rationing and wartime food. On Monday 2nd May at 10.00am there will be a chance to sample “delicacies” from the era at a War Time Breakfast. Local MP, Mark Lancaster, hopes to be present to record some tales about his time in Afghanistan. The Home Guard will be in attendance and there will be a handling table of WWII artefacts. Morning recording sessions run from 10.30am – 1.00pm on Sunday and from 10.00am – 1.00pm on Monday. The afternoon sessions run from 2.00pm – 4.00pm on both days. Normal entry charges apply. Light refreshments will be available. The Museum is grateful to the Olney Freemasons for donating the new recording equipment and for sponsoring this event.
GILPIN WIN DAVID LLOYD
COMPETITION
Having beaten last year’s winners in the semi final Gilpin once again reached the final of the Winter Indoor Mixed Competition organized by the David Lloyd Tennis Centre. The competition which is timed and based on the number of games won started last October and reached its conclusion on Sunday 17 April.
For the last four years Gilpin have played a team from Milton Keynes in the final but this year it was a local derby against a team from Olney. The match was extremely close with Gilpin trailing after the first and second rounds. However, they managed to turn it around in the third and finally finished victorious by 3 games.
