Out and About with Mark Lancaster
Our local MP
I am routInely impressed by the wealth of charities and organisations we have in milton Keynes whose sole aim is to help others. occasionally I am particularly wowed – not so much when I see the input (here are our staff, here are our facilities), but when I see the output: here are our results. one such group that I went to recently was Can Do:mK. there, Barbara reeves and her team use a small space at the Centrecom building the city centre to provide an
Sport is vital not just for our health but also for our communities. and so I am fully in support of an exciting proposal for Wolverton – to develop a new Park that would cater for Wolverton town FC and be a hub of activity for the town. I look forward to seeing the proposals become a reality. I believe this new facility will be central to the regeneration of the town, while gaining it recognition for its ‘Big Society’ credentials. the project will bring together the community while providing facilities for residents, young and old. and I can’t wait to go and have a kick about there when the goalposts are in place.
to anyone who is reading this before polling day: I want to take one final opportunity to urge you to go and vote against switching to the complicated, unpopular, unpredictable, expensive and unfair alternative Vote system. my fear is that many people who are opposed to the idea of changing our electoral system will assume that staying at home means things will stay the same. they won’t – to preserve our democracy you need to vote. aV will be helped not by its attributes but by apathy. that is why I have been strongly campaigning against the proposed new system, with many other people whom I want to thank for their input.
Mark says a big NO to AV.

invaluable service to our community – supporting the socially isolated. So anyone who is affected by drugs, alcohol, gambling and the criminal justice system can find somewhere to get assistance, advice, or just a sympathetic ear. I met some of the inspirational people whose lives have been changed by this simple yet effective ethos of Can Do:mK. unfortunately the group is struggling financially, namely because it hasn’t the funds to become a charity. However, I have pledged to do what I can to help, and I really can see them going from strength to strength.
Speaking of strength and turning one’s life around, it takes a strong person to look in the mirror and decide to tackle the issue of weight.
Mark launches new scheme at energie Fitness.
the london marathon has just happened, and left many of us thinking that we rarely walk a couple of miles, let alone run 26. yet fitness remedies so many of the health problems in society, and prevention is always better than cure. that’s why I was delighted to help launch a new scheme at energie Fitness in the theatre District, where monthly gym membership is being offered for less than £15 a month. I think this is an excellent thing – making gyms accessible to people, whatever their income. Schemes like this are a great step towards making society healthier.
