News from Lavendon School
40 years in our current school
building!
There has been a school in Lavendon since about 1839 – the old school building, now the railway nursery, was in use by 1875. We have log books from about 1907 until the 1980s. In March 1971 the first classes moved into our current building, which was about half its current size. a further extension opened in 1977, making it more or less as it is now. In order to celebrate, each class focused on a different decade – Class 4, the 70s; Class 3, the 80s; Class 2, the 90s and Class 1 the 00s.
On the 16th March Lavendon school celebrated the 40th anniversary of the building opening with an Open Morning where everyone was invited to come into school and celebrate with the staff and children. We were delighted to see so many people attend; amongst our visitors there were future pupils’ parents, parents who had children at the school in the 1970s, and ex pupils whose children are attending school now.
The children showed everyone their work about the last 4 decades and photographs of past events and pupils were displayed. refreshments were served by the Lavendon school association.
Athletics Festival
In February a group of Year 5's and 6's from Lavendon school took part in the Ousedale Family Indoor athletics Festival at Ousedale school, newport Pagnell. From that event a number of children were selected to compete against schools from all over Milton Keynes.
We are very proud that 2 of our girls made it through to the finals at stantonbury - Lucy rawlings and emily smith.
The Finals took place on the 16th March where the girls had to compete in the following events:
* 2 lap sprint * Javelin * standing Long Jump * 20 second speed bounce
* standing Triple Jump
It was a tough competition with some very high scores coming through. both girls did really well and beat some of their scores from the previous competition.
We are delighted that Lucy rawlings received 2 medals at the finals:
Gold for the standing Triple Jump with a distance of 6.80 meters. bronze for the standing Long Jump with a distance of 2.12 meters and has been invited to train for the MK squad.
Well done to both of the girls for putting in a lot of time and effort to achieve this.
Comic Relief
Class 4 helped to organise the day’s events. They included a home baked cake stall, guess the number of sweets in the jar, basketball shoot, throw the
sponge and guess the weight of the cake. Children and staff were invited to wear something red and bring in a small amount of money to spend at the stalls at lunchtime. In assembly everyone looked extremely colourful and enjoyed wearing their red noses.
Michael Farrer Award 2011
every year our pupils take part in a competition that The royal british Legion hold in memory of Michael Farrer, a local landowner who contributed a great deal to our community. This year the theme was ‘The royal british Legion’s 90th anniversary’.
entries included models and paintings of poppies, cakes with poppy decorations, projects about people involved with the Legion and poems and stories about the war.

The winners were amelia Jackson –Waite for her entry of a poster and Luke smith for his model of the cenotaph.
We were delighted to welcome a past pupil, simon Testro, now a member of the raF, back to school to present the prizes along with members of the Legion. The children were keen to ask him questions and he enjoyed telling them about life in forces and his service in Iraq and afghanistan.
