TALES FROM THE RIVER BANK Piscatorial goings on in Olney
IN AN ESTABLISHED organisation such as ours, the normal day-to-day processes go by unnoticed. The committee meet at regular intervals to guide and steer our members in the direction that we consider to be the best for our club and members.
The inevitability of change rears its head when you least expect it, and the Olney and Clifton Fishing Association is not exempt to the demands made by the progress of time.
Two major events have impacted on us this year; the first is the closure of Olney Bait Supplies, our focal point and unofficial club house (the kettle was always on) run by Diane and David Panter. Their contribution to the fishing in and around Olney, the support
for the juniors and their friendship and advice will be very sadly missed. On behalf of all of us, Thank you.
The second “Bombshell” was the resignation of our long-standing chairman and trustee, Graham Payne. With in excess of 20 years service to the club the void left by his resignation is large to say the least! With his exemplary service it hardly seems appropriate just to say thank you, but I am going to anyway! On behalf of all members of Olney and Clifton past and present, Graham, we salute you!
So, what now? Well, we had our AGM on May 5th when the achievements of the past 12 months were acknowledged and
rewarded and a good night was had by all. Following on from the AGM the committee was reformed with changes and the plans for the coming year finalised for inclusion in our 2010/2011- membership book.
It is no mean achievement in a season of 42 weeks that we as a club organise and stage more than 30 events on the association’s waters in and around
Olney. These range from events and competitions for the juniors, Open matches for the “professionals”, predator matches for the “meat eaters” amongst us, and club competitions for the rest of us. All in all, it’s very busy, but a lot of Fun!
We are always pleased to welcome new members; our rates are very competitive, £18.00 for a full member, £10.00 for state pensioners and concessions, with juniors up to the age of 16 for just £4.00.
All anglers over the age of 12 require an environment agency rod licence.
This seasons membership cards will be on sale in the Cabin at the rear of the Two Brewers from 11am on Sunday June 13th.
We have qualified Sport England coaches for beginners of all ages and it’s very relaxing in this high speed stressed out world in which we live, just to go at nature’s pace and unwind in peaceful surroundings. For more information check out our website, www.olneyfishing.co.uk
Just before I sign off, one to watch for the juniors is the community shield, sponsored by local businesses and fished as a team event. To be held on Saturday 11th September, full details and entry forms will be available from Rebecca Green Hairdressing on the Market Square in July.
Thanks for reading; we hope to see you on the bank.
