THE ANNUAL NORTHAMPTONSHIRE Country Fair, which until last year was known as the Castle Ashby Country Fair, takes place at Horton Road, Brafield on the Green, near Northampton on Sunday July 4th. Now in its 29th year, the show, which is the major fund raising event for Yardley Hastings and its community organisations has, as always, a packed programme of attractions which this year includes a special 70th Anniversary Battle of Britain Exhibition, complete with a full size replica Hurricane aircraft.
Among the host of other attractions are over 100 stands; a craft fair; falconry; dog, ferret, terrier, lurcher shows. There are rabbit and cavy shows; Have a Go dog agility and a Companion dog show; cookery demonstrations; vintage and classic vehicles; rural crafts; Young Farmers; archery and crossbow areas; helicopter and trailer rides; a Petting Zoo – where you can be hands on with snakes and insects, mice and

lizards; The Farmyard Experience where you can learn about life on the farm; model boats and model aircraft and there’s a chance to meet the rescued animals. You will also find clay shoot competitions and muzzleloading, a shooting clinic, fly casting, gundog events; a Farmers’ Market and Regional Food Area and there’s a full day’s show jumping programme featuring some of the country’s leading riders.
Over six hours of Main Arena events include CJ’s Falconry, Patchwork Training’s Dog Agility display, a Viking battle re-enactment, pig racing, a grand parade of classic and vintage vehicles and David Seamark’s Sheepdog Display
You can try your hand at archery, casting or clay shooting; see the craftsmen at work in the Craft Fair; visit the Wryngwrm Viking Village and experience living like a Viking; learn about badgers, bees and butterflies, visit the plant society stands, listen to the
brass band or fairground organ or just wander around the varied stands.
The Fair is a real family day out with plenty for the children including fairground rides, inflatables, quads, arts, crafts and sports activities, paintball, Chester Mazing the Clown and a free programme of comedy, magic and Punch and Judy shows running throughout the day. If, after all that, you need refreshing, there’s a wide range of licensed catering to suit all tastes from the exotic to traditional teas.
Opening at 9.30am and running to 5.30 pm admission to the Fair is £7.00 Adults, £5 OAPs and £3 school children, Family (2 & 2) £18. Car parking is free and dogs are welcome on leads.
