TURVEY LOWER SCHOOL CHICKENS AND MORE!
As part of our programme for Sustainability, the members of the School Eco Team (children and staff) looked at ways of helping the environment. Whilst putting in place arrangements to recycle, conserve energy, save rainwater, etc, we became sidetracked with the idea of livestock and gardening! We had, in the past, tinkered with vegetable and
flower beds but these required a great deal of maintenance, particularly during holiday times.
So, with the help of Friends of the School fundraising and specific grants, we started to develop a previously disused area in a corner of the school field. We now have vegetable growing beds, fruit and herb bins and our own chicken garden! The chickens are former battery animals (or recycled, as some of
