TOURNAMENT RESULTS Spectators enjoyed both a fine day and good tennis when we held our annual club tournaments. The photos show most of the participants. The highlight of the day was no doubt young Amy Hulley playing a stormer with Nigel Willard to beat the Mixed Doubles holders. Here are the results:
Mens Singles: Richard Finch beat Philip Ramos. Ladies Singles: Katie Bennett beat Debbie King. Mens Doubles: Les Folds and Mike MacDonnell beat Gun Chui Hwang and Simon Barter. Ladies Doubles: Avril Soman and Gill Hogston beat Eleanor Carter and Katie Bennett. Mixed Doubles: Amy Hulley and Nigel Willard beat Philip Ramos and Beryl Rook. Mixed Doubles Plate: Kay Gibbs and Max Lickfold beat Emma and Simon Barter. Boys Singles: Jacob Petrou beat Henry Clarke. Girls Singles (played at earlier date): Amy Hulley beat Emily Myrtle.
SUMMER FAMILY AFTERNOON We ran a successful afternoon for families and everyone enjoyed playing against the ball machine and the Adult and Child mixed games. It was held on another rare hot day so all enjoyed tea and cakes on the grass.
SEPTEMBER COACHING To satisfy the increasing demand for coaching from all quarters in Olney, Nigel, our club coach is running more sessions than ever this autumn. A record 141 have already signed up, which is more than in the summer, showing tennis has a 12 month appeal.
For Juniors, there are Toddler sessions on Tuesday mornings and Thursday afternoons.

There are also courses for Minis who are under ten and there are three levels. These take place after school on Tuesdays and also on Saturday mornings. There is also a Junior Club session on Saturday mornings. For Adults, the popular Rusty Racket sessions return for those who have not played for a time and want to get into tennis again. There is also a New to Tennis session which will show you the basics and help you enjoy the game. Individual lessons can also be booked. TEAM UPDATES It was a mixed season results wise with some teams up near the top of their leagues and some going down. The Ladies B and the Mens Bucks were the most successful. The Ladies A and Mixed also did well to stay up. Overall though the best aspect was that over 45 adults played for the teams along with a number of our top junior boys and girls who are now playing in the senior teams – a good club effort!
For the winter season, we are running three mixed teams. We are always looking for new players so please contact Eleanor on 01234 713954 if you’re keen to take part. The season starts with a derby match between Olney A and B.
END OF CLUB DINNER We are arranging our first end of season dinner on Sat 4 October at the Two Brewers in Olney at 7.30pm. The trophies for the Club Tournaments will be presented and entertainment is being arranged. All are welcome so call Simon on 01604 696968 to book your place.
