Dear Editor
We have just been into Emberton Park: Thursday afternoon; School holidays; Sunny spells.
What do we find?: Two large banners at the entrance proclaiming 'Cafe Open'; Vehicle entrance charge £3.50; BOTH cafe building AND mobile refreshment bar CLOSED; Virtually no visitors with cars, except a few fishermen.
What do MKC provide for visitors for £3.50?
Visit any similar park in the area, even up to Nottinghamshire, and there are no charges matching £3.50 for such non-existent facilities. I am left wondering if MKC is deliberately overcharging to drive custom away, with a view to selling or privatising. The cost of the ‘man on the gate’ must exceed the takings.
Why is the charge for admission so high? Is it any wonder that the cafe has no customers and people do not come again?
Before MKC took over the park it was well used and maintained, but now it seems that MKC are incapable of managing such a facility; perhaps a contract with MK Parks Trust including the caravan site is a possibility?
We used to bring visitors to the park, but now are ashamed of the facilities. Benches are sited facing bushes, when within a few yards are gaps giving views over the lakes.
Perhaps the Council ought to hold its meetings in different venues in MK and force councillors to visit the different parts of the Council's responsibilities, including the areas beyond the New City where they seem to blame English Partnerships and MKDC for any problems.
Regards, Brian Lintern
