We are sorry to read that one of the Olney residents had been knocked down at the crossing. We take any such incidents very seriously. We’ve read the comments from Basil Margrave and would reply as follows:
The crossing recently underwent a periodic inspection as part of the BVPI, and is, as far as everything goes, safe from the road user’s point of view.
The state of the white markings at the crossing is not perfect but are still legible. We have however asked for them to be re-furbished as soon as is possible.
We have a continuing problem with the ducting under the road which has collapsed and despite remedial work is still not ideal.
We are planning to replace the crossing with a new one as part of our upgrade programme, and our signals engineer has drawn up some plans for this. In conversations with him we have also tried to incorporate more pedestrian features around the crossing to make it a more ‘dominant’ feature and user friendly.
Because of the forthcoming review work and subsequent public exhibition on proposals for Olney, we had envisaged including the crossing re-design as part of this action, so it could well be that in 3-4 months, everything is agreed and we are pressing forward with a new crossing.

I was absolutely appalled to read in Phonebox Magazine that Tesco is to take over Turner’s unit, whatever is the Town Council thinking about. Tesco will take over this lovely town, force all the local shops out of business and I guess will also affect the market on Thursdays.
