Olney Town Council
News from your Olney Town Council
A full Cowper Memorial Church welcomed clubs, societies and Olney Town Council to a Community Christmas Celebration on Sunday 16 December. This was the first such celebration and what a splendid success it was. We are certain that all the positive comments made by the congregation during the mulled wine and refreshments laid on afterwards will have cemented plans to hold
a further Community Christmas Celebration next year.
As well as traditional carols there were readings and poems chosen, sung or read by representatives of The Cowper & Newton Society, Olney Historical Society, Olney Camera Club, Olney Gardening Club, Friends of the Cowper & Newton Museum
Olney Chamber of Trade, Olney Senior Citizens, The Olney-Newton Link and Olney Town Council. In addition there were performances by the Sunday School children, a magnificent duet performed by Celia Dashfield and Dawn Turner, a stunning musical solo by Brian Reid and a finale of magic, humour and music by members of the Bolivian Sunshine Dogs. Kitchener Centre Christmas Party
The Kitchener Centre manager, staff and volunteers laid on a Christmas Party for the residents who attend the Centre, which was held in the Olney Centre on Monday 17 December. The Party started off with Bingo followed by an excellent lunch and then entertainment by Olney Middle School Choir. The choir sang a number of Christmas songs and carols under the direction of Mr Russell. They sang beautifully and received warm praise from Ivor Neale who thanked the choir on behalf of the Kitchener Centre party. Father Christmas then arrived to deliver presents to the guests, staff and volunteers. Olney Town Mayor, Cllr John Smail and his Deputy Cllr John Sharp were present and John Smail congratulated the manager, Helena Newbold and her team for organising such a good party for those who attend the Kitchener Centre and to Pete Bebbington for his unique contribution.
