Emmaus Village Carlton
I am pleased to report that Mike O’Meara is recovering well
from the trauma he experienced back in August. At the end
of November he visited a brother in Arizona in the USA, and
returned feeling a lot better for the trip, having had a break
from EVC. Prior to Christmas he was back to working part time, and was involved with the Volunteers evening quiz, and Carol Service.
We had the pleasure of Terry Waite CBE, who is President of Emmaus UK, visit us for our Carol Service in the Bistro, on Saturday 22 December 2007. As well as leading the singing, he spent time talking with Companions, Staff and Trustees, as well as customers who had come along for the carols. He was made very welcome by all those attending. This visit was part of a tour that Terry was making before Christmas to several Emmaus Communities in the UK. This was quite an achievement, and was very much appreciated by all those concerned who work and live in the Communities. Following the carol service Terry accompanied several of our Companions, Staff and Trustees to travel to the Prebend Day Centre in Bedford, where a cheque was presented from EVC to help pay for new security gates for the centre. This was an act of solidarity, where, when we can, we try to help others who are worse off than we are.
The Prebend Day Centre helps those in need in Bedford with meals, clothing and day shelter, although they do not have any accommodation at present.
