Live Jazz!EverybodywelcomeClub of the Month: SC Disability GroupIts founder calls it %u2018The Astonishing Dream%u2019 and for thousands of members it%u2019s a valuable community resource. So how did Sam Churchman create and build a 3,600 member disability community from scratch? Through hard work and determination certainly. It has been a tough yet enjoyable journey for the autism sufferer with a %u2018never say never%u2019 attitude.Sam was born six weeks early in 1998 and received his autism diagnosis in 2001, when it was far less commonly known. Today he describes his life as %u2018a study in resilience and carving my own path%u2019.%u201cMy educational journey was an ongoing saga,%u201d says Sam. %u201cI left school with no formal grades because the environment often failed to fully accommodate my specific intellectual needs. But when the traditional system didn%u2019t fit, I decided to seek out opportunities I never thought possible.%u201dThat determination led him to build his %u2018beloved%u2019 SC Disability Group entirely from scratch. Run mainly from a Facebook page, the community has attracted a huge number of interested members, and continues to be an important place to go for many of them, sharing help and information among enthusiasts in a safe and open environment.%u201cToday, the SC Disability Group is a thriving community with 3,600 members,%u201d says Sam. %u201cThis is an astonishing achievement %u2013 over 3,000 people alone have joined since our current iteration began in June 2023.%u201cIt proves that hard work and unconventional routes lead to success. The group is a dedicated ecosystem where people can genuinely connect to discuss vital topics, debate, get advice, and simply have fun in a supportive environment.%u201dNow Sam is calling on new people to join the movement and has set a fresh target for 2026.%u201cOur next goal is: we want to reach over 4,000 members next year,%u201d he says. %u201cI am living an impossible dream, and I invite you to be part of this supportive movement.%u201dThe SC Disability Group is available to join on-line. It promotes help among members and positive opinion. If you or someone you know would like to join the community, search for %u2018SC Disability Group%u2019 on Facebook.
