54 Phonebox Magazine | December 2025LOCAL SPORT ROUNDUPOLNEY BOWLING CLUB2035 has proved challenging but there have been positive signs. We had eighteen new members join us as a result of the Open Day & Bowls Weekend promotions. Four members are being trained to act as Coaches for the new season. After last years match successes of 39 wins & 21 losses, this year has proved more diffi cult. We racked up only 16 recorded wins against 29 losses losing 1311 points to 2134. Lets look forward to getting back on track in the New Year. The Dinner & Dance & Awards Ceremony will have taken place when you read this, so congratulations to all those who were successful in winning a trophy. (see the OBC Facebook for details) See you all in April next year at the Open Day.OLNEY & CLIFTON FISHING CLUBThe month has just ended with the river being largely unfi shable, but leading up to it what a month it has been. Three matches with good catches all round, and the predator fi sh have arrived big time. Our fi rst Tuesday open of the season was won by Kevin %u201cLegend%u201d Osbourne with over 11lbs of silvers. Kevin was drawn in Doff %u2019s, which is producing its best fi shing for a number of years. The big match of the month was the annual Royal British Legion open. Serial winner Neale Shearn took fi rst place with the highest of four doublefi gure catches from our Harrold section. The club was also able to make a three-fi gure donation to the RBL which is something we are justly proud of.The most recent Tuesday open saw Nick Antonacci win with a bag of perch that would get our predator hunters salivating. Over 17lbs from Chub Alley. If any of you enjoy seeing pictures of big fi sh then I advise you to go onto the Olney & Clifton Fishing Association Facebook page. I could literally have had a full page in this month%u2019s magazine full of pictures of perch and pike that have been caught in the last few weeks, and deciding which ones to use this month has been very diffi cult.Last month I promised a report on Olney%u2019s home leg of the Bedford Winter league. Unfortunately heavy rain meant that the match had to be moved to the canal, negating our home river advantage. Let%u2019s just say that team would have caught way more on our river. Nick Antonacci bag of perchAndy Crouch with perchLennon Barnell with his pikeNext month we have our Christmas Match, another Tuesday Open and our Pike & Perch Match series gets underway. Until then, tight lines. Damon.Ousedale pupil and Olney tennis player Ben Swallow continued his good form at tennis over half term by qualifying to gain direct entrance into the U14 Boys doubles at the Lexus indoor national championship grade 1 in Nottingham.Although Ben and his partner Sebastian Mueller lost their opening match it was a fantastic experience to test themselves at the highest level against the best in the country.Youth Football Team SponsorshipWe announced a little while ago, that we were sponsoring %u2018The Lions%u2019 %u2013 i.e. the Newport Pagnell Football Club Under-15 team. Well, we just received this photo of the team. Looking very sharp in their new kit! This is a great way to raise our profi le, while supporting this valuable Youth project %u2013 and aligns perfectly with Lions Club%u2019s Mission.Alignment with Lions Clubs%u2019 Mission:1. Community Focus: The Lions Club%u2019s primary focus is on service to the community. Sponsorships should align with this mission, contributing to youth development, health, and well-being, or fostering community engagement.2.
