Shocked residents woke today to fi nd the High Street bank destroyed, with thousands of pounds worth of damage.Police were called, but by the time they arrived the criminals were gone, leaving a gaping hole in the Grade 2 listed building.%u201cIt%u2019s devastating,%u201d said one resident. %u201cI can%u2019t believe the damage this has caused. Apart from that, it%u2019s terrifying for the people who live here and very unsettling.%u201d It%u2019s not the fi rst time the Nationwide has been targeted %u2013 in 2010 the front of the branch was ripped out when thieves used a digger to steal the ATM machine. And earlier this year the nearby Sainsbury%u2019s store in Olney suffered a similar fate when its cash machine was torn from a wall.The local Barclays Bank, on the opposite side of the High Street, was hit by ram raiders in 2018, and it has never re-opened.%u201cWe are aware of an incident at our Olney branch overnight,%u201d said a Nationwide spokeswoman. %u201cWe have already begun the process to get the branch up and running as quickly as possible, and we will let customers know more as soon as we can.%u201dThe bank%u2019s website says the branch is %u2018closed until further notice%u2019.Olney building society hit by raiders yet againCashed out: Thieves leave a trail of destruction in the High Street robbery
