30 Phonebox Magazine | October 2025Beethoven music raises funds for cancer treatmentA chance to hear Charlie Lovell-Jones, one of the most exciting young violin soloists of modern times, playing one of the greatest concertos of all time, has been organised to raise money for the MK Cancer Centre.The concert has been arranged by Olney resident Catherine Rose, who says she was %u2018unlucky%u2019 to be diagnosed with breast cancer in 2022, but %u2018very lucky%u2019 to be treated in the place she calls %u2018the Palace on The Hill%u2019, MK Hospital%u2019s state-of-the-art Cancer Centre. %u201cOne of the drugs I was treated with is called Filgrastim,%u201d said Catherine. %u201cI discovered that it costs the NHS around %u00a35,000 just for that one drug. This is my chance to pay something back.%u201d Charlie will play Beethoven%u2019s Violin Concerto in D. Other works in the evening%u2019s programme are Haydn%u2019s Symphony no 92 %u2018The Oxford%u2019, since part of Catherine%u2019s treatment took place in Oxford, and Rossini%u2019s playful overture %u2018The Italian Girls in Algiers%u2019, because it%u2019s one of her favourites.Catherine is well-known as the conductor of three local choirs and other ensembles, including guesting for the Alina Orchestra, MK%u2019s professional orchestra.This orchestra, brought together for the occasion, is called the Filgrastim Philharmonia.
