June 2025 | Phonebox Magazine 39We attended a short course of CPR and Defi brillator Awareness Training this month, arranged by the South Central Ambulance Service. This was part of our preparation and Risk Management for our upcoming Motoramaevent. We also delivered a short briefi ng session for some of our volunteers from the Olney Classic Car Club, who are kindly helping us out at this event again. Thank you, guys.As we reported last time, we%u2019ve recently re-stocked our Message In A Bottle. These little pots contain a pre-printed form and two green cross stickers. The user fi lls in the form that contains information that clearly identifi es them, their basic medical details, emergency contact numbers, any allergies, etc. The form is then put back in the bottle and stored in the fridge. One of the green cross stickers is put on the door of the fridge, and the other is put on the inside of the front door. Lions Clubs promote this scheme because we believe that this gives older or vulnerable people more confi dence about their treatment in an emergency. It also gives peace of mind to relatives and friends that essential information will be available in an emergency situation. So, this month, we%u2019ve been dashing around, giving out our MIAB pots to Peak Pharmacy, Age UK Charity Shop, University of the 3rd Age and to individuals who have asked for them, too.Hearing Aid Recycling %u2013 Retired Lion John Ferris is our champion for collecting hearing aids. That%u2019s the call from this friendly group of dancers who step back in time when they practice new steps. Here%u2019s how it works. Are you looking to try something new, meet new people and have fun whilst learning new skills? If so, this dance group with a diff erence could be right for you.We are affiliated with the Cowper & Newton Museum in Olney. We were formed almost by accident in 2016 when a professional Georgian dance group arranged by the Museum found themselves doublebooked. After an appeal for a tutor, Stuart Tranter of Cheek to Cheek School of Dance off ered to help, and within four weeks we had learnt our fi rst dance and performed it as part of the Museum%u2019s Georgian Day event. By chance, Roy and Jo Walker, who were experienced Playford Dancers (dances from the late 17th and early to mid-18th century), decided to attend the event as they were looking for a group to join. Impressed by the progress that the group had made in only four weeks, they off ered to help in any way that they could. The result was that they ended up running the group and expanding its repertoire to facilitate public performances not only at the Museum but at a number of care homes and National Trust properties. We have also been featured on TV in Celebrity Antiques Roadshow and performed before Prince William when he visited Milton Keynes as part of Milton Keynes Festival of History. We are now looking to expand our numbers, both men and women. No partner or experience with Playford dance is needed. We meet every Friday evening at the Olney Centre between 7pm and 8.30pm. Come along to see what it%u2019s like - you will be warmly welcomed!
