Follow us on Facebook %u2013 Newport Pagnell South Ward Newport Pagnell South FOCUS Team, Cllrs Jane & Andy Carr, Tony OyakhireMeeting with MKE developersWe recently met with the developers for MK East to discuss their progress with reopening the A509. As many will know, we have not been impressed with progress. However, we felt this was a productive meeting where we again voiced our concerns as to the delays and the lack of accurate information. It was recognised by Berkley St Joesph%u2019s that they had not communicated information well enough and had missed a number of deadlines. They now have a hard deadline of 31st August 2025 to reopen the road. After which they will concentrate on the link road, where work has started at the top of the A422 and will lead down to the A509. To confi rm, (as there is still a lot of misinformation), the A509 will lead to the M1. The road will not look the same, but it will off er a route to the M1. Building will continue on the site providing further service roads to the medical centre and the fi rst of three schools, both of which are already built. They will also complete a bridge over the Ouzel and begin the work on the eco-diversity wetland, the road to the motorway, and planting of the new woodland. Berkley will also set up the promised consultation group to discuss the design and further progress of the site. The consultation group will include representatives from Moulsoe Parish and Newport Pagnell Town councils, residents of Willen and Newport Pagnell, (including representatives from the fl ood group), as well as local city councillors. We shall continue to press for more information and better communication, as well as more consideration of the needs of the wider community. Traffi c congestion at Marsh End RoundaboutWe have been informed by the developers working on the Winvic (warehouse) site that they are reconfi guring the traffi c around the roundabout. The traffi c congestion expected by the left-in left-out proposals meant the work was rearranged to try to work with residents%u2019 needs. However, the time has come when the left-in left-out will start. Between 12th and 17th May there will be a partial left-in left-out at Marsh End Roundabout. There will also be an overnight road closure on 18th May as they reconfi gure the roundabout, which will result in a full left-in left-out from 19th May for a maximum of six weeks.Litter Pick DatesThe dates for this year%u2019s community litter picks are all at 1pm on the following dates: 28th June, meet at Poets Estate shops.30th August, meet at the entrance at Portfi elds Avenue shops.25th October, meet at Station Road Car Park.Councillor SurgeryOur next councillor%u2019s surgery will be on 24th May from 10-11.30am, at the Mead Centre, Newport Pagnell, to coincide with the Repair.Annual Vintage Event, Town Centre and Bury Common, Saturday 7th June from 11am-5pmOur vintage day has a specifi c focus this year as it%u2019s the 80th anniversary of the end of WW2, and it is widely accepted this will sadly be the last major milestone at which the country still has veterans from that confl ict with us to thank for their service and heroism. As we understand it, our event is the only such commemoration in MK.Strawberry Fayre, Youth Club, Wolverton Road, Sunday 15 June (Fathers%u2019 Day) from midday Entertainment, fresh strawberries and afternoon tea, a bar, hot food, entertainment and plenty of local stalls to enjoy. It is an ideal afternoon for all Fathers and others. Newport Pagnell Carnival, Road race and parades through town. Events, music, food, bar, funfair and stalls on Riverside meadow, Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 JulyIt is the biggest event we have in the town calendar, with so much for the whole family. Don%u2019t miss it.Soapbox Derby, Silver Street, Sunday 13 July The road race, reborn a few years ago, returns the weekend after carnival to start another relaxing Sunday.Open roadsThe roadworks outside town will frustratingly be even more restrictive soon. This is necessary to build some parts of the structure of the enlarged Marsh End roundabout. For a period, there will be no Right Turn available from any direction at that junction and for those approaching from Willen Road it will be Left Turn only. Please watch out for roadside signage, as exact dates could change. Unfortunately, due to the delays on the other works, these extra restrictions will begin before the A509 has reopened, which we are promised will be by 31 August. Thankfully, at that point, London Road and the through route to the motorway will be open at last, and the Marsh End roundabout works will also be moving towards completion.Phonebox readers with any comments about Newport Pagnell, can contact me at pauldayMK@outlook.comA Summer of CelebrationYou and your friends are invited to join our town as we enjoy great events this Summer.
