February 2025 | Phonebox Magazine 37We are already 31 days at least into the New Year and at least two days into the %u2018Year of the Snake%u2019 by the time you read this. How time fl ies! Apparently, time seems to go by quicker as you get older as the speed of the clock doesn%u2019t always match the way time feels as it passes. The same duration can feel long or short depending on what you%u2019re doing. Have you ever considered why? By all accounts, the more experiences we experience, the slower time takes to seemingly pass. As we get older, we have generally experienced most things and, therefore, time passes quicker. By defi nition then; if we try new experiences and keep ourselves busy, time will go by slower. At least, that is one theory and perhaps one to go with. The name of the game is to fi nd new experiences and CRMK could be a new one for you %u2013 possibly!As a young man it was work and sport for me, plus the %u2018odd%u2019 visit to a pub or two %u2013 I was always busy! Joking aside, time is something we don%u2019t think about when young. As a child, Christmas to Christmas seemed so long. Nowadays, it is here all too quickly. Maybe, early seasonal advertisements in October go some way towards this feeling.It has been said in this article many times about CRMK wanting new presenters. It could be a short-term, one-off or %u2018Bucket List%u2019 thing and why not? Presenting a show can be fun, should be fun and is fun. We are a Community Interest Company and a radio station for the community, with presenters our lifeblood. Without presenters there is no CRMK as it is presenter subscriptions which keep CRMK running, particularly as we are coming up to our most fi nancially draining period of the year.Our studio re-opened in April 2017 and that means bills coming in for music licences and yearly subscriptions. They can be quite hefty. These go with monthly bills such as electricity and radio.co, a cloud-based programme, which enables us to broadcast live to the world without the need for expensive hardware or technical know-how. In short, they provide the means for anyone with a computer to create and manage a radio station.So, in the year of the snake what do we need at CRMK? We have a number of presenter applications awaiting processing including some thanks to Phonebox magazine. We want passionate and enthusiastic people to join, particularly during the day. Every week, twice or even once a month - we are open to all requests. It%u2019s good to talk!The snake has long been regarded in Japan as an auspicious being that brings about good fortune and fertility. Since snakes grow and repeatedly shed their skin, they are also considered to be symbols of rebirth and resurrection as well as vitality, immortality and prosperity.
