form. Not injections and tablets as was the interferon. Ava is now on the treatment which costs around £47,000. Due to the high cost, lots of rest is required to give this amazing new treatment the best chance of eradicating the Hep C Virus.
Last year, Ava’s very best friend Edwina Maertz died from liver and associated cancer at only 55 years and in August her friend and local man Gary Upton passed away from lung cancer. This is why Ava wanted to mark it by raising money for Macmillan and she decided to Brave the Shave. Gary’s funeral was held on Friday 2nd September so it was very meaningful that Ava was going to Brave the Shave that same day. Ava raised well over £300 from generous sponsors locally and also another £410 of sponsorship online and the raf e and local donations came to £280, so she reached her target of £1000! She would like to thank everyone that has given to this worthwhile cause, especially Sue Thompson of the Horseshoe Lavendon for letting her host the event there during their regular Karaoke evening and The Quattro Lounge Emporium Hair Salon in Wellingborough for coming and shaving her head and joining in the fun. Ava would also like to thank all the kind donations to the raf e. Ava says she is getting used to having no hair, enjoying the freedom and learning how to wear lots of headscarves!
