A Fantastic Success Steve Wells
The recent Musicians Against Homelessness event was a fantastic success, thanks to all the hard work of so
many local people, including sound engineers, venue owners, bands, hosts, bucket shakers and door staff; all working totally free for the cause. I am proud to say that as this article goes to press, we have collectively raised a running total of £1,700 that will go directly to Crisis and we are still expecting a few donations to come in.
The event
On Friday night, Musicians Against Homelessness 2016 got off to a ying start in Newport Pagnell as The Royal British Legion staged an excellent evening of live music, hosted by “The Dead Heartbeats”. Great sets from Gill Beckett, The Plucky Haggis, Dan
Patmore, Mike Russell, John Michael Davies and the incredible AKA set the tone for a big crowd to commence the fundraising.
On Saturday, we had three venues in Newport Pagnell hosting live music from 2pm - 11pm including the Newport Pagnell Working Mens’ Club, The Cannon and The Coachmakers Arms, with many locals making full use of the weekend wristbands, going from venue to venue to see a diverse mix of talent.
On Sunday, we were lucky to have The Girl from Mars – a raunchy, super-cool Britpop musical theatre show – which hit the Craufurd Arms in Wolverton. Support on the night came from local lads, The Delights and Evan Emerton. It’s not every gig that you are treated to a giant robot and Burlesque dancers to accompany a ne list of Britpop anthems, brilliantly performed by the band.
