Memory Club
St Peter & St Paul, Olney
As we grow older our brains, full of information gathered over many years, begin to lose their capacity to hold everything we attempt to cram into them. For some this might be an indication of dementia, but for many it is simple memory loss. Try as we might, we can’t remember where we
left our keys – and exactly why did we come upstairs?
The Memory Club, which meets on the rst Friday of each month at 1.30pm in the Church Hall, is an initiative begun and sponsored by the Parish Church of St Peter and St Paul to help those, mainly elderly, who have problems with memory. Run by trained leaders, assisted by volunteers, it provides a place to meet and take part in activities which are designed to stimulate memory in a gentle, non-threatening way. There are stories to be told, laughter to be shared, all in the comfort of a warm, welcoming place. Using a variety of sensory stimuli, members of the club are encouraged to recall memories which are evoked and then perhaps talk about them in small groups while enjoying a cup of tea or coffee and a chat. Occasionally there may be a little gentle chair-bound exercise for those who wish to participate, or advice on how to establish a routine – when leaving the house, for example, so that nothing is forgotten. And of course, it is designed to be a time for socialising and enjoyment. The Club, which has been running successfully for three years, is open to anyone, including those who are accompanied by carers or family members. Some are referred by health professionals, others by friends. The venue is wheelchair-friendly and has facilities for the physically disabled. So why not give us a try?

TECHNICAL TRAINEESHIP WITH SCORPION MOULDINGS
Scorpion Mouldings
We are a family owned company that makes precision plastic injection moulded components, mainly for the engineering and electrical industry. We are a valued supplier to the automotive and other industries and have been established locally for over forty years.
The company has been a leader in terms of technology, quality and customer service for a long while. However, the industry and our markets are changing rapidly and we want to stay ahead of the competition and enhance our ability to provide technical service and quality product to customers.
We are therefore looking for candidates to join our graduate traineeship programme. They will probably be in their late teens or early twenties. They will be educated to at least “A” level in a science subject or mathematics.
After passing through the selection process they will embark on an individually designed training programme. This will allow them to take on a responsible role in the company’s plastic processing, tooling engineering or technical services areas.
Those interested should make contact either in writing or by e-mail, with brief personal details, to:
