Oxfam Auction Success
Oxfam Books and Music in Olney are celebrating some success with a couple of amazing auction lots. We had a hand bound collection of engravings and illustrations of Denmark, and Copenhagen in particular, from 1760. These were done by Jonas Haas, who was an illustrator of some note. We sold this at Cheffins auction house in Cambridge and this book was sold for £460.
The Second book was the ‘Shadows of the Moor’ written by the 8th Duke of Northumberland, but this copy was from a private printing of the book, paid for by his Grandson, the 10th Duke in 1967. We sold this in Bloomsbury and Dreawitts in London on the 17th March, and it went for £480. We are incredibly lucky in Olney to constantly have donations with really interesting and occasionally, valuable books. We are always surprised at the quality and quantity of books that come through the doors.
Lent Lunches 2016
The fantastic total profit to Christian Aid this year is £2277.85.
Many thanks to those who contributed homemade soup and to all who gave their time during the last 6 weeks to help achieve this excellent result. There was a great community spirit and it was pleasing to see people enjoying the social occasion. There were abundant offers of help from the churches of Newport Pagnell and also from people not connected to the churches. Thanks also to everyone who came along, spent their money and supported us. We rely on you.
