HRH The Earl of Wessex visited Ousedale School in Newport Pagnell to see rst-hand the difference The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) makes to young people and communities in the
Central England Region.
The Charity is celebrating its Diamond Anniversary this year, having helped to transform the lives of millions of young people in the UK and across the globe since it was founded in 1956.
Ousedale School is being recognised for its outstanding achievement of increasing the number of students taking part in the DofE four-fold, from 50 to 200 in just six months. This is due in part to the development of the aim for Ousedale School to involve more students in extra-curricular activities and the recruitment of a dedicated DofE Manager who concentrates solely on running the Award with the School’s young people.
The DofE has had a tremendous impact on the culture of the school. Students, for example, as part of their volunteering help younger students to improve their reading, support charity events and help peers with numeracy and languages. As a Trustee and a Gold Award holder, HRH The Earl of Wessex has championed the DofE for many years.
Peter Westgarth, CEO of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award adds: “It’s clear that the Charity is an integral part of life at Milton Keynes which has played an invaluable role in the development of hundreds of young people in the community”.
