Newport Pagnell Town Football Club
Newport Pagnell Town followed up their first win of the season at Sleaford with an excellent 2-0 home win over second-placed Yaxley, with goals early in each half. Dom Lawless scored in the 8th minute and should have
extended the lead from the penalty spot later in the first half but saw his penalty saved. Josh Crawley added the second goal for Newport in the 51st minute.
Unfortunately the next two league games provided disappointing 1-0 defeats, away at Eynesbury and at home to Wellingborough Town. Eynesbury scored the only goal of the game midway through the first half. Although Newport fought back in the second half the nearest they came to scoring was a Keith Williams free kick that hit the post. The performance against Wellingborough was poor. The Wellingborough goal came from a badly defended corner late in a first half in which neither team had looked capable of scoring. Newport had the bigger share of possession in the second half and looked the better team but they lacked the sharpness and accuracy around the opposition penalty area to turn it into goals.
These two results left Newport exactly in mid-table, in 11th place out of 21.
In between the two league defeats Newport Pagnell progressed to the next round of the FA Vase with a 3-1 win over Bugbrooke St Michaels at Willen Road. Josh Crawley gave Newport the lead after 15 minutes but the visitors equalised just after the half hour. An improved performance by the home team in the second half saw Josh Crawley add a second goal after 55 minutes and Dom Lawless made the win safe three minutes from the end after a great run by Luca Seminerio. Newport Pagnell will have a home tie against Berkhamsted in the next round.
In their next league match Newport bounced back from the two disappointing defeats with an impressive 7-1 win over Long Buckby. Sam Parrish opened the scoring after only 5 minutes. Josh Crawley added a second, following up after his penalty had been saved.
Long Buckby got a goal back, but a Dom Lawless penalty made it 3-1 just before half time. With Newport Pagnell completely dominant in the second half further goals came from Dom Lawless, Josh Crawley (another penalty!), Scott Mulkern and a Long Buckby own goal.
With three consecutive away matches in the middle of the month, there are only two home first team fixtures currently scheduled in October: Saturday 4th October (3.00pm): Berkhamsted
(FA Vase 2nd Qual Round)
Saturday 25th October (3.00pm): Harborough Town (UCL Premier Division)
