Olney 7s 2014
Olney Bowling Club
the 7s presenting Olney with the Brakspear Bitter Plate.
The Country & Stable Social tournament displayed a good standard of rugby and proved to be just as entertaining. Wrong Direction 7s won the Country & Stable Shield and Godfathers Cugines the President’s Bowl. The Brakspear Bitter player of the tournament was Tommy Gray from Sherrards Assassins.
Olney 7s 2014 proved once again to be a excellent rugby day for all involved and post tournament celebrations, with a hog roast and live band, continued well into the night! Garth Hannaford, from CLIC Sargent Godfathers who have been taking part for a number of years said, “Olney 7s provides one of the best organised tournaments and venue that they go to on the 7s circuit each year”. Congratulations to all involved for making the day so successful and thank you to our sponsors Brakspear Beers, Country & Stable of Olney, Joules of Olney and Dread for their support.
Like all good club events days like this don’t just happen without the help of many volunteers. Thank you to all the organisers, ground staff, ball boys, pitch marshals, bar team, and the rest of the volunteers for making Olney 7s 2014 a great club day out. Olney 7s 2015 - Saturday 4th July. Book the date!
Top of Division One
Bletchley & District League
Olney Bowling Club reached the final of the Bletchley and District League for the third year running.
Our opponents in the final were Bletchley Town Bowls Club. Bletchley proved too strong and Olney lost the final by just 5 shots. It must be one of the closest results on record.
Congratulations to all the players in the squad, a great team effort.
Beetle Drive
Another triumph for the Entertainments Committee! Great fun and some very artistic beetles! The drive was won by Colin Millward. Congratulations Colin
Finals Weekend
Congratulations to all who took part in making it such a successful weekend. A list of all the winners will be posted on our Facebook page.
Points Night
The first winner of this new competition is Sue Rogers. Well done Sue.
By the time you see this, Dear Reader, the Green will be closed. Work will have started on preparing it for next season. Many of our bowlers will continue playing at Clubs with indoor facilities.
October is when the real competition begins. The competitors, fighting through blood, sweat, tears and arthritic pain to reach their ultimate goal. To be crowned the Olney Bowling Club Table Tennis Champion!
Finally a word of thanks to everyone who gave their time and effort to make this season so successful. Without the volunteers the Club would not exist.
A special thank you to Alan Bates. Every year Alan grows, plants and tends the flowers which surround the Green. Every year we are treated to a glorious display of colour.
Olney Junior Cycling Champion for 2014!
Olney Infant Academy pupil Fraser MacArthur has been crowned Under-6 ‘Go Ride’ Cycling Champion for
2014, by Team MK.
Young riders from numerous cycling clubs across the South of England have been battling throughout the summer in the ‘Go-Ride’ Racing series, gaining valuable points for each race. They have competed in individual Time Trials, off- road Mountain Bike races and group Road races – all based at the Bowl in Milton Keynes.
Fraser, aged just 4, managed to beat all his competitors and was crowned overall Champion, achieving the most number of outright wins, along with first place at the end of the season in all three individual disciplines.
As the smallest and youngest competitor in the under-6 category, his level of enthusiasm and will to win has been
second to none. Only trouble is, he now has to defend his title in 2015!
Go-Ride, sponsored by Sky, is British Cycling’s development programme for young cyclists. The programme provides a fun and safe way to introduce young riders to the world of cycle sport and provides a platform to improve their bike handling skills.
Training takes place every Saturday at 2pm. More information can be found at the Team MK website.
