Concerns raised about proposed Sainsbury’s site
Competition Winners
Dear Editor, I wish to thank you very much for my winning tickets to see ‘Top Hat’ at MK Theatre. We went on Tuesday and it was a marvellous show. We thoroughly enjoyed it all. My friend has difficulty walking, but the theatre staff were most helpful. After the show they produced a wheelchair and took her down in the lift to where I had brought the car around to pick her up from the front. Thank you for allowing two ‘perky pensioners’ a super evening out! Yours sincerely, Mrs Val Belcher

The Bedford Railways and Transport Association have raised concerns about the proposed Sainsbury’s and fuelling station in Olney. Lavendon Road, on which the site is proposed, is narrow with tight bends, and it is likely that queues will form tailbacks and delays.
They also believe the supermarket could also have an affect on smaller, traditional businesses. There would still be a 10-mile drive to the nearest railway station, and studies have shown that re- opening the link between Northampton, Bedford and Milton Keynes would save money and help those living in a rural landscape. The BRTA want the land south of Lavendon Road saved for a future rail link, complimenting the Marston Vale line south of the A509.
Having a railway would allow for more capacity on trains to Milton Keynes, and provide direct links from Olney to Luton Airport and London (for employment and leisure). Furthermore, it could be linked to Bletchley, Bedford and Northampton. Lastly, they believe better policing on the A14 at Thrapston could make people go to Milton Keynes via Northampton and the A45, which in

turn would cut the amount of traffic making its way through Olney High Street.
BRTA is holding a forum on October 4 upstairs in The Two Brewers from 1-3pm.
