A Museum Matter
Pat Conroy
Earlier this year my husband and I were on a trip to America and ended up in Liberal, Kansas which is where the annual pancake race, which is twinned with Olney, is held.
Liberal has the Dorothy Museum, relating to the Wizard of Oz and an excellent Aeroplane Museum. It was whilst visiting the Aeroplane Museum that the Curator told us we had just missed the gentleman who runs the Pancake Museum. She rang him up and he said he would open up especially for us.
When we arrived at the museum the curator, his daughter and a friend where there so meet us. They showed us round and gave us some memorabilia to take home. They showed us the route the race covers and made the visit extremely memorable.
I have the memorabilia and also some photographs of the town. If anyone who organises the Olney Pancake Race is interested in having them for their archives they are more than welcome.
If someone would like to contact me on 01933 663454 I can arrange to send it or deliver to them.
It was a very special visit and a wonderful surprise that we should end up there purely by chance.
Bull Changing
I recently heard that, once again, The Bull in Olney is changing hands. This is an extremely disappointing reality for the community of Olney and the many tourists/visitors that we have to our town. The people running the pub are a huge part of the community and have turned the pub into a fantastic place. The entertainment, amazing food, events that they hold are outstanding. I do not know much about the reason they are leaving but I have heard lots of talk of the empty rooms that are wasted in the building. Could it be this reason? I, as do many, really struggle to understand the “no brainer” of turning The Bull into a hotel. Have you seen the ‘no vacancies’ signs that permanently line the town’s hotels and B&B’s? Not only does Olney temporarily house (in hotels and B&B’s) the many professionals that are visiting offices etc in the larger towns (Northampton, Bedford, Milton Keynes) but there is a constant influx of tourists/ visitors that come from afar. It would be a great shame to our community and those that visit, if The Bull was to change hands. But, aside from that, for how long is this pub going to be stood half derelict? It is preventing further tourism and visitors for no apparent reason. Furthermore, it would give more jobs to our community; something that would be extremely favoured.
Donzella Thanks

I am sure I am not alone in wishing to express thanks to Donzellas for their Macmillan Coffee Morning. Their excellent coffee was complimented by a delicious array of mouth-watering goodies.
Well done to all.

As outgoing Poppy Appeal Organiser for the Legion in Olney (circa 8 years) I would like to take this opportunity to thank my wife Katrina and all the loyal appeal collectors that collect each November for a very worthy cause. Tom Jones is taking over this important job and I would like to wish him every success. Thank you to all in Olney that give so generously and I am sure it will be the same this year.

Did anyone else see the beautiful rainbows over East Street last Sunday?
My daughter, Natalie, took this picture at the junction out of Olney to Cold Brayfield. Clearly no one in charge - but
