Barking Dog Anon Readers Pointless Waste ... a reply ProfGeorge So I have lived on Dingleder for the last 12 years with my family and I couldn't wish for a better road or neighbours. But for the past two months my relaxing evenings after a hard days work are disrupted by the constant barking from a nearby dog. I'm currently writing this on a hot Saturday evening Prof George Solt of Olney also sent his e-mail (le to the Council, and this was their reply: Thank you for your e-mail and can I first apologise for the problems with the traffic. The works were undertaken as an emergency to repair a burst water main by Anglia Water. Anglia Water decided to follow the normal practice of off peak at 9.45pm with a constant yapping in the background. Sometimes myself and family members are woken up at 6am by the same dog. I myself have a dog who occasionally has a bark at a bird or the cat but this is constant as if it's been shut outside. Please, please, please if this is your dog be considerate to others who occasionally like a bit of peace and quiet! traffic signals with manual control in peak times. This would be in accordance with standard practice. You have made an interesting suggestion of what might have been done to reduce delays. However the potential problem is that to have done it legally a temporary one-way traffic order would have been required. This could not be obtained in an emergency situation due to the notice periods required for such an order. Therefore in an emergency situation the only legal solution was the traffic lights. I hope this explains the situation but we will consider you excellent suggestion in situations when we have sufficient notice to implement it legally George's reply is that yes, the Council acted correctly, leading to three days' needless worse-than-usual traffic jams, and an extra cost. What would really have happened if they'd had the nerve to ignore the regulations? (Nelson got away with it). PointlessWaste.... fromlastmonth'sPhonebox ProfGeorgeSolt My house overlooks The Knoll (at the north end of the High Street) where for three days there have been road works and a tra ic light, leading to serious tra ic delays in both directions of the High St. I suspect that that has been quite unnecessary. The actual works obstruct only the easte half of Dartmouth Rd, so the traffic light lets cars pass in one direction at a time. Instead of installing lights, it seems more sensible to make the first few yards of Yardley Rd one way to the Restaurant one way to the east, e ectively tu ing the Knoll into a tra ic island. There would indeed have been some slowing down of tra ic, but nothing like the delays due to the lights. Moreover the works would not have bo e the cost of the lights, or of a man (whom I have watched for three days) whose sole duty seems to be to stand by the lights and fiddle with them from time to time. Can someone please explain why the council could not do that? oj a free ew tient* or free 1Mpl nt Consult tion , Quality Private Family Dental Care , Excellent Hygienist / Therapist Services north and the unnamed stretch fronting the Amaya Free Check-ups r Children* C .g We're easy to nd Our beautiful family dental practice is located in the quiet rural village of Denton, just 1 5 mins drive from Earls Barton and 1 0 mins drive from Olney or Northampton. it Easy Free Parking C C ® CEREC is here!
