Newport Pagnell Singers are celebrating their 50th Anniversary in style! Under the enthusiastic baton of Musical Director Roger Windmill, and accompanied by brilliant pianist Ed Tomlinson, the choir are preparing for a series of three concerts.
Baroque to Rock features a huge variety of popular classics. Selections from Vivaldi’s Gloria, Handel’s Messiah, and Haydn’s Creation will be heard alongside Fauré’s Requiem and Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana! The concert will culminate in a performance of A Tribute to Queen. Join us at the Parish Church of St Peter & St Paul, Newport Pagnell, on Saturday 28 April, 7.30pm.
Sizzling Summer Serenade promises an evening of relaxing light music. The choir will be joined by special guests, Fenny Stompers Jazz Band. Grab a seat at Lovat Hall, Newport Pagnell on Saturday 23 June, 7.30pm
The choir was founded in 1962, when Mrs Ethel Wesley, organist at the Parish Church, met with a group of ladies who had previously been members of Newport Pagnell Choral Societies. They decided to join together as ‘Newport Pagnell Singers’ and invited Arnold Jones from Wolverton to become Musical Director. The choir organised many charity concerts, with Ethel as accompanist.
Our Gala Concert is our most ambitious yet! We join forces with ‘Andante’ for a Mendelssohn and Brahms showcase. Highlights include Brahms’ Liebeslieder Waltzes and If With All Your Hearts from Mendelssohn’s Elijah. Ed Tomlinson and Richard Heyes will perform two of Brahms’ Hungarian Dances for piano duet! The evening also features selections from the music of Karl Jenkins including The Armed Man and Songs of Sanctuary. Guest baritone soloist is Simon Woodhead. Join us at The Chrysalis Theatre, Willen on Saturday 13th October, 7.30pm.
Edwin Lack, a member of staff at Ousedale School, became Musical Director in 1977. He gave the choir a new role, taking live music to the villages, helping them raise money for their church funds. When Ethel died in 1986, Edwin took over as accompanist, as well as Musical Director, nearly always bringing his elderly mother to concerts and practices.
In recent years the choir has grown from strength to strength, expanding its repertoire to include songs from musical theatre, pop songs and spirituals, as well as large scale works such as Haydn’s Creation, Hiawatha’s Wedding Feast, and From the Bavarian Highlands. Newport Pagnell Singers have also grown in size! We now have over 50 members, and regularly sing to audiences of over 200.

Shortly after 3pm on Friday 16th March my sister fell in Silver End, Olney. I would like to thank all the people for their help and concern for her welfare. I would especially like to thank the lady who knelt in the road to comfort her while we waited for the ambulance. I would also like to thank the ambulance crew who were very kind and attentive. Her daughter would like to add her thanks as it all happened while she was at work.
