News from Lavendon School
the Queen’s diamond Jubilee
weighed and stamped before going outside to the post box where Mrs Bundy helped them to post the letter.
Lavendon School held a themed week in celebration of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. On Thursday 9th February children and staff were asked to come to school dressed up as Royalty. There were some highly imaginative outfits, some of them from the staff! The children made bunting to decorate the school hall for the ‘street party’ lunch. When the decoration was finished the hall looked fantastic. The whole school ate together along with the staff.
On the 1st of March, Class 2 received a reply to their letters from Buckingham Palace. Susan Hussey Lady-in-Waiting wrote that the Queen said thank you for the letters and the good wishes sent from the children for her Diamond Jubilee. She said that the Queen was interested to know that the children had been learning about the Royal Family. The Queen finished by saying she was very glad to hear from the children and Mrs Bundy.

Class 1 had lots of fun during the Jubilee week; they designed royal crowns and decorated them with jewels made from coloured paper. Individual cup cakes were baked and iced with red, white and blue icing; commemorative plates were made and decorated to put the cakes on.
Class 3 were very busy designing and decorating “Crown Biscuits” to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee. Mrs Beardshaw helped the children to cut the biscuit mixture into the shape of a crown. The biscuits were then decorated with red, white, and blue icing
and trimmed with silver icing balls. They looked wonderful when finished.

Posting their letters to Her Majesty the Queen
class 4
The children in Class 2 have written letters to the Queen. In the letters they congratulated her on her Diamond Jubilee and told her about the different activities they had been enjoying at school.
To celebrate the Diamond Jubilee Year 5 and 6 got creative! They were set the challenge to create 60 games that could be played with little or no equipment and recipes that could be made within 60 minutes. They created instructions to go with their red letter or telephone boxes. After all the hard work and preparations, much fun was had!
After writing their letter, all the letters were put into one large envelope and addressed to Her Majesty the Queen at Buckingham Palace. Mrs Ryan and Mrs Bundy walked with the children down to the village Post Office in Lavendon to post their letters. The children went into the Post Office and had the letter
