News from Lavendon School
Class 2: The theme in class 2
this half term has been toys. To
support their learning and
understanding, Class 2 visited
Milton Keynes Museum. The
children were delighted to be
given a tour around the Museum
by the staff. They were very
interested in looking and
listening about things from the
past. They particularly enjoyed
the parlour and the polyphone and a demonstration of how a pianola was played by peddling with your feet. The children were fascinated by a wooden train which dated back to the 1800s. Everyone enjoyed
playing with the old toys and having a try with the cup and ball. The children in Class 2 all returned back to school having thoroughly enjoyed their trip and were very excited to retell other pupils and staff about their visit.
Class 2 have also been busy making mugs using clay. Whilst the mugs were drying they designed their own artwork to paint on the mugs. We are all looking forward to seeing the finished
products which will be taken home as memorabilia for the
Royal Diamond Jubilee.
Class 3: During PE lessons Class 3 have been improving their badminton skills. They enjoyed these lessons enormously. Judging from the cheers and applause that echoed from the school hall, all participants were putting a great effort into their play!.
Cookery: This month, during their weekly cookery sessions, the children have made some wonderful cakes and biscuits. Class 2 made individual crispy cakes and pin wheel sandwiches along with some sausage rolls. The items that were made were then put into colourful homemade boxes and each child has designed a colourful label for their box.
Chinese New Year
This term one of the many topics that will be covered is
Chinese New Year. 2012 is the year of the dragon and as part
of the children’s education we looked at the Chinese
Community. The children had the opportunity to try some
Chinese food, such as noodles (great fun was had experimenting
with chopsticks!), rice pancakes and fortune cookies. There was a
Chinese interest table, to which the children added items from home throughout the week. Finally the children learned how to say ‘Happy New Year’ in Cantonese - ‘Gung Hay Fat Choy’ and the staff entertained the children with music and movement to our Chinese New Year Song.
