Another Successful Year for the
Olney- Newton Link
As another year draws to a close it is wonderful to be
able to report that in spite of the financial uncertainty surrounding us in this part of the world the Olney-
Newton Link has continued to support our friends in Newton. There have been several remarkable achievement, one being the visit of the three
teachers to Olney in May. This gave a huge boost to
the Link between the schools and this continues to flourish.
The second great achievement has been the opening of the Skills Training Centre and this has been accomplished by us in Olney enabling a small group of young, enthusiastic but totally inexperienced men and women in a village in Africa to design and build a facility to enable the people of their community to learn IT skills and make use of the internet. Yes, they have made a few mistakes along the way but what an achievement and it isn’t over yet of course. They need to keep it going, to maintain and develop the Centre and we will continue to help them to do this for the foreseeable future.
Earlier in the year we were asked if we would consider providing some solar panels for the Health Centre in Newton to enable them to have lighting for night births and refrigeration for drugs. We were sent a very comprehensive budget for this amounting to £5,000. I am delighted to report that we have received a donation of £3,000 from the Souter Foundation which means we need to raise a further £2,000. We are also very grateful to the Olney Lions for a donation of £500 so only £1,500 to go now. It is within our grasp!
So a huge THANK YOU for all your support. I hope we will see you at the Barn Dance and Hog Roast on February 3rd or perhaps running in the MK Marathon for us?? There are other events coming up in 2012 so do visit our website to find out more.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Car Parking in Olney
WE FACE A ridiculous situation in the High Street. The parking bays are all pointed the wrong way inducing people to park nose first, the driver must then reverse out into the traffic stream which can be very difficult to see.
Round the corner by the Co-op is sheer comedy, but sadly wasteful of a lot of time. One commonly has time to sit and read a book while waiting for someone to reverse out by means of a six or eight point manoeuvre. This is just plain crazy. One should at all timed reverse into a parking bay. Reversing into a bay takes far less time than reversing out, your own time and everybody else’s. If you’ve not got the hang of it you may often find space to practice when calling. Provided your mirrors are so set as to enable you to see your rear wheels you won’t need to be a contortionist peering out behind.
If this chump can do it then so can you.
While I’m on the subject I’ll not hesitate to add that there are too many people who park on the wrong side of the street in Newport Pagnell for the sake of immediate convenience only to hold up a host of other people when they come to driving out against the stream. GB

A recent mystery shopper visit and review has seen Olney Kitchens shortlisted for the 2012 kbb review awards. Phil comments: “We do everything just so and we’re confident in what we do. Customers don't have to pay everything up front. So far they have all been satisfied”.
