Charles Dickens ... bi-centenary
CHARLeS DICkeNS WAS bORN ON 2ND OF JANuARy 1812 so this year many places associated with him or his writings will be ‘doing something special’ and nowhere more so than broadstairs where he lived for many years. Those places don’t just have a brief
market but whole weekends, or in the case of broadstairs a Dickens Week. About the third week in June the whole town goes mad to celebrate their history. broadstairs remains very much a Victorian town as to its architecture and several houses are duly
Gb
noted as the homes of people on whom he based many of the characters in his novels. even to-day many families have period costumes which they fetch out for the week – right down to kids with patches in their trousers – and simply live as of old.
What a wonderful place for a holiday! The sea front is the finest South Coast venue anywhere east of Devonshire. I’m forwarding pictures of Viking bay – reputedly the Vikings first landing point in england and in Dickens Week the site of an exciting aerial display.

Eunice Panter
Sadly my wife eunice passed away on the 12th November after a long illness.
I have been overwhelmed by the kindness and sympathy that everyone has shown to me and my family.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank family, friends and neighbours for all their help and support through eunice’s illness. It was very much appreciated and a special thanks to Christa, the WI and Lavendon old people’s group for their support.
Thank you all very much. John Panter
There is a Dickens museum also on the front and the great big house shown sitting on its promontory is ... wait for it... yes that really is bleak House. I’m told the way to a man’s heart is through his belly and if you like Italian Cuisine as much as I do you’re in for a treat.
