Sherington CE School working in Creative
Partnership with Emberton School and
Federated with St Andrew's CE school
“Mary had a baby, yes Lord, Mary had a baby, yes my Lord”. The children of Sherington CE School gave the seasonal story new life with an interpretation whereby the young mother's main preoccupation was knitting the baby's natal blanket. Mary's knitting gave the whole school an opportunity to shine alongside the traditional angel and star and all acquitted themselves well. With a large proportion of the cast new entrants to school last September they rose magnificently to the occasion, which in Sherington custom, was beautifully presented in St Laud's church with the right mixture of solemnity, celebration and joy that the magic of a new birth should attract. Many thanks are due to those who helped get the show on the road; foremost Annette Borner Musical Director, Sue Temple Wardrobe Mistress and Janeanne O'Loughlin knitting consultant. Jo Cowley and the PTFA made sure the evening performance was suitably refreshed and Rev Mandy Marriott led the prayers. The term ended with a school party and Christmas craft workshops involving the whole school and in which our many friends and volunteers played supporting roles. To these and the wider school community we wished a Happy Christmas break and peaceful new year.
Man the Lifeboats
NEW YEAR iS high season for crystal gazing so i’m going to tell you what lies ahead.
it is an established fact that as a ship goes down the first people into the lifeboats are best placed to get safely home. Twenty years hence when we look back on the adventure that was the European Common Market and its stupid currency we will see that the first escapees gained most, we have a good prospect of being among them.
2013 will see elections to the European parliament. in company with surely the majority of true Conservatives i will tick the UKiP box. Plenty of people who are not Tories will also tick that box and the outcome will be just delightful. in Westminster the demand for a referendum will destroy our crazy coalition to the point where we will have a General Election in November. The collapse of the coalition will hopefully see the Conservative party kick David Cameron and Kenneth Clark into touch leaving us free to fight that election with a firm undertaking to hold a referendum in February or March 2014 – offering a ‘get right out’ option which will prevail.
This won’t cure all our ills at once – the people in those life boats must still pull on the oars. But in just a few years the nations of Europe will recover their own pride, their own currencies and their own satisfaction under their own laws. The Europhiles will pretend that we stand to lose all our European trade. Nonsense, trade was for the most part up and running even before the Euro-dream which led on to the Treaty of Rome; and since that time the dream has become pure nightmare.
Just now the leaders are living in denial but their time is fast running out. The first to escape will be the greatest winners in the long run. in 2032 we will be very pleased with ourselves.
