In the November issue of Phonebox the Mercury Report covered in brief the Council discussion on BOFF, citing it as a successful event – fantastic! Indeed, the letter printed in the same issue of Phonebox clearly shows it as an event which drew visitors to the town, (or at least someone from Loughton if nothing else!). I believe BOFF has every chance of becoming almost as big an event as ‘Dickens of a Christmas’.
Where the system had potential to fail, (but thankfully didn’t) was if it had made a loss – because the Council had agreed to underwrite any loss up to a maximum of £1,200. The ‘small profit’ declared certainly saves a lot of embarrassment in the Council chamber!
If you look on the Olney Town Council website, you will see the Biography of each of your Town Councillors, (hit http://www.olneytowncouncil.gov.uk/8/ and click on a Councillor name to get their respective Biography), and you will see my personal driver in standing as a Councillor is ensuring the views of the people are represented, and on this I just couldn’t see how the Town could ever be expected to positively respond to forking out £1,200 to the Chamber of Trade whilst seeing commercial stallholders walk away with the profits from £7.50 beef burgers!
....and what about the Marketplace Toilets?! The Mercury Report in this edition covers the discussions on the toilet facilities on The Marketplace. It is disappointing that fewer than 40 people came forward to express their views on the options proposed in the Public Consultation, but nonetheless, I feel that the more reasoned approach to the use

I very much look forward to receiving your suggestions and directions – and Merry Christmas!
