HAVE YOUR SAY
Letters
Dear Editor
I write this letter in the heat of the moment and make no apologies for its content.
Today, 17 June 2011, I was informed that the shed down my allotment was broken into. Upon visiting the site, I discovered the extent of the damage. They first destroyed the entrance gate to gain access; I struggle to understand this as the gate has no lock and could simply be opened. Obviously, they lack the mental capacity to cope with opening a gate. The shed door was torn open in order for the criminals (and that is exactly what they are) to gain access. During their visit to my allotment they stole two folding chairs, some timber, as well as some vegetables – at least they have good taste in fresh food. They also decided it was necessary during their visit to move and tip over a 55 gallon drum – which I use to collect rain water – and dump it with some force onto the produce, crushing it in the process.
This has not been a solitary act of vandalism; the whole allotment community has recently been targeted by individuals perpetrating these random acts of maliciousness.
Anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious behaviour
down the Olney Allotments between 1900 hrs (16 June) and 1100hrs (17 June), please report it to the Police. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated; if these individuals could do this kind of damage to a shed, no doubt they can do it to homes and other personal property.
I have reported this incident to the Police and am determined to seek retribution for such antisocial behaviour emerging rather disturbingly in our friendly and peaceful market town. No crime should go unpunished.
Thank you in advance, for the publication of this letter.
Kind Regards Dan
Dear Editor
Many thanks to those who attended my ‘Bank Holiday Weekend’ and those who have donated to the cause since. A total of £450 has been raised for ‘Compassion in World Farming’.
Some of the money will go to help stop the practice of mega-dairy farms being developed in this country. The cows are kept by the thousand in huge sheds where they never see a blade of grass.
If you don’t want to encourage this, please buy only organic milk.

On behalf of the Inner Wheel Club of Newport Pagnell I would like to thank you for advertising in your magazine our five gardens that were open on 5 June 2011 which was in aid of the charity Whizz-Kidz. We had fantastic support from the public and collectively raised £2,030. Once again many thanks.

Secretary, Inner Wheel Club of Newport Pagnell Dear Editor
I would like to thank the council for the plaque on The Whirly Pits, it is informative, but I am concerned about the amount of rubbish that is in the pit itself. I noticed this evening that someone had thrown a wheel trim from a car into the water (It was on the side of the road the night before). As they have taken time to inform us shouldn’t they try to make sure that rubbish is cleared on a regular basis, i.e. the bins emptied on a daily basis, as today it was overflowing.
