Summer Fun Day at Stoke!
IF It’S July then Stoke Goldington’s annual Summer Fun Day is here! the popular, fun afternoon for all the family to enjoy is on Saturday 16th July, kicking off at 2pm on the village Rec and at the Village Hall. Every year the event raises much-needed funds for Stoke Goldington Pre-School and Stoke Goldington Church of England First School.
Kicking off the afternoon is a chance to watch the children from Stoke First School channel all their energy into their Sports Day, with all sorts of races and ball games galore. After that the ice-cream stall is usually the first popular port of call for a well-earned tasty vanilla cornetto!
Following on there’s plenty for children and younger visitors to enjoy, whether they fancy having a go at lucky dip or the ‘name the teddy’ competition, enjoying the bouncy castle, looking at a farm tractor and trying to guess how many balloons are inside or hooking a duck until their heart’s content. Don’t forget they can have their face painted too!
the bottle tombola has become a renowned beeline for the ‘grown-ups’ and with the cuddly toy tombola right next door you’re in line to win something that at least one member of the family will be happy with. If you’re in need of a sit-down the Stoke Goldington Pre-School children put on their very own little performance during the afternoon, which takes the form of a ‘Sing-a- long’ featuring nursery rhymes and songs with all the children from 2 to 4 years old sporting their own fancy dress – very appealing to watch!
later on during the afternoon the Stoke Goldington duck race always draws a crowd and the tug-of-War is becoming more hotly contested as each year goes by!
When you’re in need of refreshment you can head to the Pimms Bar or enjoy a freshly cooked BBQ or homemade cream tea. the cake stall provides some gorgeous sweet treats to enjoy or take home and you can usually pick up a bargain at the plant stall at the same time.
Fingers crossed for good weather!
