BUSES
As we said last month due to budget pressures some of the bus services are changing. One of the most important changes will be the 36 service that goes from Olney to Northampton via Weston Underwood, Ravenstone and Stoke Goldington. This service is being cut from the 8th of May and will be replaced with a new bus called the 37, this will travel from Newport Pagnell to Olney via Lathbury, Gayhurst, Stoke Goldington, Ravenstone and Weston Underwood (please see timetable). The link to Northampton will not be maintained on the 37 service however the bus that currently goes from Bedford to Northampton and vice versa will again be stopping in Olney, after a break of a number of years. This change will be greeted by many as a welcome development but it will not begin until 2 weeks later. In the intervening time transitional arrangements are being put in place to get people to either Lavendon or Yardley Hastings to catch the Bedford Northampton Bus. These are not the only rural services coming under threat. From mid May there will be a number of changes to other routes and these will continue throughout the year. The service that serves Clifton Reynes and Newton Blossomville and also Tyringham & Filgrave has been kept going until October while we all try to sort out other means of running the service.
The service that serves North Crawley in the evening has been saved from council cuts by the hard work of the parish council who successfully managed to delay plans for cuts while work is done to investigate other funding sources and service arrangements. The direct bus from Moulsoe into Milton Keynes is also due to be cut which will involve a change at Coachway.
With all these changes we will try to keep you in
touch with what is happening and to ensure that the rural areas still get a public transport service at the time it is needed whilst still offering the best value for money for the tax payer.
AGE UK OFFICIAL SHOP OPENING
The shop has in fact been open since March 14th and another new feature of the store is its consultation rooms to the rear where information, help & advice can be sought.
Congratulations to the Age UK team & all the volunteers for such a fresh looking shopping experience.
SIGNS
The issue of A boards on Olney High Street and surrounding roads is once again raising its head. Currently it is against the law to put an A board on the pavement and is punishable by a large fine. For businesses in Olney, many of whom are down alleyways, they need people to know where they are located, especially at the times when spending is restricted. We are therefore working to find a compromise position where footpaths are not blocked by signs whilst still allowing business to point people in their direction. We will update in this column when any further developments happen
ARTS & HERITAGE OPEN DAYS
Milton Keynes Council has successfully secured a grant from Arts Council England to enable Arts & Heritage organisations to come together and offer an exciting 10-days of public events during 6th to 15th May, taking place at different times and locations all over Milton Keynes.
Age UK have relocated their shop in Olney to bigger premises next door, the shop fit out is in the new AGE UK colours and this is the first rebranded shop in Milton Keynes.
