Hi people, I hope all is well. With plenty of bank holidays to fill I’ve been on the look
out for local entertainment. For any petrol heads or parents with bored children, be sure to have a look at the Santa Pod feature opposite. Enter the competition and you could be rewarded with two full weekend passes for this months Main Event. Of course I couldn’t go through May without mentioning the enormously popular beer and sausage festival at the White Hart
in Sherington - be sure to listen out our for the Olney Brass band. Lastly a big big congratulations to my mum who despite being terrified of heights and having never flown before, managed to jump out of an aeroplane at 13,000 ft and skydive safely down to fields of Brackley along with Olney & NP resident Grant Smith and friend Heather Sell. All money raised went to Willen Hospice so a big well done!
Following feedback from customers Olney Wine Bar has brought back Open Mic Night. Many customers commented that there was little to do on a Sunday evening and it would be great if Olney Wine Bar would re open on a Sunday night and host Open Mic nights as a fantastic way to finish off the weekend in relaxed and comfortable surroundings. So as a result Olney Wine Bar has extended its opening hours from Sunday lunch time, serving a full Sunday lunch until 4pm, through to the evening serving a great selection of bar snacks up until 9pm and as a bonus we’ve thrown in some entertainment for you.
An Open Mic session is hosted by professional entertainers, chosen by Management, who sing, play live instruments, act as a host and interact with the audience. If you want to join in, sing along or get up and do your own thing then we throw the floor open to you between 7.00 pm and 10.30 pm!
Don’t worry, if you would rather just relax, then you can just unwind and enjoy the variety on offer, you don’t have to join in. Either way the host will sing and entertain you whether it’s on his own or with help from other budding stars!
“We would like to offer any local performers or bands a platform to show off their talents” said Seamus Bryans, Manager of the Olney Wine Bar. Seamus then went on to say “As the Wine Bar has a long history of live music performances and offers a great night out in Olney it seems a shame not to open the venue up to enable people to come along and get up on the stage. Everyone is welcome whether you just come to listen and relax or you want to get up and dance. Come and find out what happens and then take it from there. There is no pressure to be involved, if you want to join in then make the host aware. Just enjoy and we will
hopefully uncover lots of talent.”

Booze and bangers aplenty
One of my favourite points in the year is the arrival of the May bank holidays and of course the beer and sausage festival hosted by the White Hart in Sherington. The event attracts people from all around the area and beyond, whom upon arrival can indulge in as many as 50 different types of ales and ciders and around twenty different types of sausages. Add to this a friendly, fun atmosphere and music (which I believe might be provided by the Olney Brass band this year) and it’s the perfect mix for a great occasion. This year the 12th Annual beer and sausage festival takes part on the 29th & 30th April and 1st & 2nd May from 12pm each day. Sausages are available from 1pm onwards. On the 29th April there will also be a Royal wedding street party with live tv coverage (some of you may see this in time).
Lastly please remember that this event is also to support Willen Hospice.

The creative melting pot that is the Wateshed continues to thrive. On the 7th May at 8pm guests Jason Vatter, Auralia Sky and Richard Bailey will join SSL regulars Gary Murphy and Jet Lagged Jeff. This funky little pad boasts Super Mario downstairs and beanbags and tunes upstairs. This is a cracking alternative chill out venue so make sure you go check it out!
