No NHS for pets: what does this mean?
There is no NHS for pets. The aim of the NHS for UK citizens in the UK at least is to treat all people equally regardless of their background or wealth. Pets have no NHS, so their owners need to weigh up the RISK and make CHOICES so that when their pet becomes ill or is involved in an accident and requires treatment by the vet, the owner of the innocent animal has made provision.
Help is at hand to make positive choices with availability of Pet Insurance. Astonlee Plan is a simple prepayment scheme whereby clients pay in £1.25 to £2 per week as a minimum which enables their pets to receive treatment when they need it because the scheme makes the treatment easily affordable. For people who are on housing or council tax benefit there is the availability of the PDSA Pet Aid scheme for one pet per household for people living in MK1-MK16.
(Terms and conditions apply to these schemes).
The RISK and the CHOICES need to be considered to avoid what happens to some pet animals when, like this six month old puppy, they are found abandoned under a tree in Newport Pagnell in a poorly state needing treatment. If the owner had registered the puppy with a vet and got the puppy insured or joined one of these schemes, this puppy would not have suffered needlessly.
