Feral cats were once domestic cats, or the descendants of domestic cats, who are now living in the wild. Originally they may have been pets which have been abandoned by uncaring owners, or who could have simply wandered away from home and got lost, often due to not having been neutered.
Unfortunately feral cats are difficult to re-home. Unlike regular domestic cats they are happier without human companionship and prefer outdoor homes, i.e. farms, small holdings or anywhere with a little outdoor space.
Feral cats require access to somewhere warm and dry, like a shed or barn, and need feeding once or twice a day. contrary to popular belief, feral cats still depend on people for food. Only very few can survive on hunting alone.
could you offer an outdoor home to feral cats? If so, the branch would love to hear from you.
the majority of cats that come into the centre’s care can be re-homed into loving homes. Occasionally we have cats with temperament issues, our asBO cats. the branch currently has two asBO cats which need to be re-homed together. these cats would also suit an outdoor home.
all our cats are neutered and microchipped and we can loan out pens so they can be confined for the first 2-3 weeks in their new surroundings.
If you would like any more information on feral or our ASBO cats, or would like to offer them a home, please call the Milton Keynes & North Bucks RSPCA on 01908 611179, or email us at cathome@mkrspca.org.uk The website address is www.mkrspca.org.uk
