Businesses pay the penalty for local hospice
MINor INDIsCreTIoNs DurINg meetings cost members of BNI Diamond networking group in Milton Keynes dearly - but in the process they raised £500 for Willen hospice.
Letting mobile phones ring, wearing a loud tie or using a designated word during their marketing message were all deemed a breach of the ‘rules’; the latter being particularly difficult to avoid as the ‘word’ wasn’t revealed until the end of the meeting!
andrew freestone of freestone Ink and Toner, responsible for the fundraising said: “raising money for charity is never easy, even for good causes like Willen hospice
and short of physical violence and extortion I had run out of ideas. Then I remembered that BNI works so well because of its structure and this was an absolute gold mine for this purpose.
“I fined everyone who stepped outside the ‘rules’ without exception but luckily every member got behind the philosophy. excuses for a fine were hunted down in the best possible humour with members often suggesting ones I hadn’t thought of!”
fundraising for Willen hospice was the brainchild of Chapter Director Tracy Clark from sign-a-rama in Milton Keynes, ably assisted by
stuart Bradley of Bobbyflash graphic Design who as Treasurer for the Chapter was responsible for counting the money raised.
at the handover last week Tracy told Paul J hinson, Chief executive of Willen hospice: “as representatives of local businesses, the members of BNI Diamond like to get involved with local causes. some of our members have had direct or indirect involvement with Willen hospice in the past and it seemed a very appropriate charity to choose to support.
“If any company owner would like to see how we work together to promote our own businesses, find new business for other members and raise money for charity, all in the space of one and a half hours per week, they are very welcome to join us for a meeting.”

We can accommodate girls from Year 9 and above at training and also playing in some matches.
our players include mums and students, ranging in age from 14 to 50, so age is no excuse! We are a social club with an annual Christmas Dinner, end of season tour and regular get togethers throughout the year.
